Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
In accordance with our research we looked into many different genres of film and the different characteristics they posses that makes them work. For example we found that horror films often have a dark gloomy miss en scene. Props such as knives and masks are often associated with this genre. The story line usually includes a hero type protagonist who battles the evil villain and often comes out triumphant. Horror films tend to be tailored at a more mature audience do due their intense graphical nature. Action movies tend to be based more on special affects and always aim to push the boundaries to keep viewers entertained. They often have many different camera cuts in one scene to up the pace. Typical miss en scene you'd expect with action films would be fast cars weapons and sexually appealing actresses. A good example of this would be the "Fast and Furious" series of films which have all three of those miss en scene trends, the fast shots help to create the impression of how fast the cars are going for the audience.

The Comedy genre is very different and aims to influence the audience in a different manner. the main idea with comedies are to provide humour, the idea of having one liner jokes, often spoofs of over movies, a good example of this is Epic Movie, where there are multiple spoofs of movies such as Snakes on a plane, Charlie and the Chocolate factory, The Chronicles of Narnia, American Pie, Borat and many more.

We then looked into films that push the boundaries even further by combining two genres together. Such as the Scary movie franchise which successfully mergers horror and comedy films together. These films spoof many popular horror films of the 1990s while adding sexual references into the story lines along the way. This works as it will attract the original audiences of these films who will want to see how the story lines have been altered.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our film is aimed at teenagers and young adults. With this in mind we created characters that teenagers could relate to. We have Husaam as the protagonist who is an average 17 year old boy walking through the graveyard on route to meet his girlfriend. He is dressed and acting like a normal teenage boy and reacts to the encounter with Bruce as anybody else would.
Bruce on the other hand is not somebody society would class as normal, he is going against social norms by concealing himself in a blanket and haunting people who pass by. He is under the assumption that he is invisible to the naked eye.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
It will initially be screened in cinemas across the world. Then making the transfer to DVD and Blueray, and being able to purchase on websites like Amazon.com and Play.com

Who would be the audience for your media product?
The target audience for ‘I am Bruce` is generally aimed at young adults in their late teens, 16 – 25. We have also implemented a 15+ age rating. The reason behind this is we have been heavily influenced by movies such as Epic Movie and therefore follow their raunchy sense of humour.

How did you attract/address your audience?
We have attracted audiences of both the horror and comedy genres. In doing so I believe our films will relate to a wide audience of people as it portrays the U.K culture which is different from the cultures seen in many other crossover movies such as Scary Movie which is based on American culture.

Market research into similar genre - Scary movie

The inspiration for the protagonist in our movie came from this film.As our movie is a crossover of horror and comedy we decided to take a more comical approach when selecting our villain. Our character Bruce acts and behaves very much like this man.He seems to be very clumsy and intellectually challenged but is very dangerous. However we have taken a different approach in our film as Bruce doesn't yield a knife or any other weapons, as we focused more on the comedy aspect in our film.

Typography - Film titles

When it came to creating the font for our film we decided to look into other films and how there titles tie in with the genre of their film.

                                                                 Madagascar 2

Straight away we know that this film is aimed at children from the bright yellow and orange colouring along with the wavy block lettering which implies fun and happiness. The waves also suggest that this movie is about adventure. The film location is also given away in the font with the "Escape 2 Africa" written in a stick font which is usually associated with Africa.

We then looked at film titles along the lines of the same genre of our own production, below is an image from the world renown horror film "SAW"

As you can see there is a distinct difference in the fonts style and colouring.
The text seems to have been written in black ink, with the numbers in roman numerals to give it a satanic horror theme.

Initial Video Production Logos

The first logo idea incorprates the first initial of each production members name in a sleek font coloured red in order for it to be clearly visible from the background.

The second logo incorprates a simplistic design in the background with the name of the production group in the foreground, I think this works better than the previous idea as it seems more professional even with the simplistic design

In the end i chose this font for our logo as it seemed more professional and realistic for the opening movie credits.

Locations

Possible settings

Outside the church would be a great place for the scene of the main character walking along the footpath, as is not too far from the church, and makes the video set more realistic, as the view would include cars and may be a few pedestrians, which should not be a problem.

Here is the entrance of the Church, which would include the scene of the main character walking into the graveyard. The main character would be isolated with graves and trees. This effect would make the chasracter much lower and a indication of something to go wrong.

In this scene, the the main starts to run in fear, with confusion, and does not know where he is going to end.

At this point, the scene would include the main character is attacked by the other character.
The main chatacter then runs to the stepped pillar made out of stone.

Yesterday, I went to the Church on Cowley Road in Oxford, and took a variety of images of the different scenes which may be included in our beginning scene of our film. We took a few images of the main road, which was quite busy, with

Equipment used in film production

A range of equipment and software was used in the production of our film.
here i have listed what we have used.

Google.co.uk We used this to collect information on films in the horror genre. Images of props and costumes where also easily obtained through this.

Facebook.com The majority of people from our school are connected to this social network site, this made it easy for us to conduct our audience research. This was much more effective then creating and distributing a questionnaire

Blogger.com All our work we did was uploaded and organised on to this website.

Youtube.com This helped us a great deal as we could watch film openings and traliors, and incorporate the ideas into our own film. Our provisional video was also uploaded from this website onto our blog
IMovie: This was the software we used on the macs to edit our video clips together to form our provisional video and final peice on. It has a really simple interface allowing video clips to easily be imported from external sources (Sony handycam in our case).Video clips are easily cropped, and we also experimented a great deal with the different sound effects. Overall I was very impressed with IMovie and found it very stress-free to use.
Adobe Photoshop: We also used photoshop a great deal. Our provisonal company logo was created using this, we later used the software to crop production photos.
